The Yarra River (Surrounding the Abbotsford Convent.) The Walking Project 2015

have a studio at  Abbotsford Convent in Melbourne where I developed the work I'll be exhibiting at Sawtooth.

The Walking Project 2015

The peninsula of land on which the Abbotsford Convent in Melbourne is located is a palimpsest of walking tracks, both ancient and current.
The Walking Project is a record of a contemporary experience of walking this land.
It is ‘...an exploration of the ghosts and voices that haunt ancient paths, of tales that tracks keep and tell.’
Macfarlane, Robert, The Old Ways, p xi, Hamish Hamilton, Penguin BooksLondon, England, 2012

The Walking Project has three components:

The Map 2015: a site responsive, layered document of my walks in the Convent grounds over one year.

Archival Images 2015: an interpretive amalgam of archival photos of the Convent years 1863 - 1975.

The Collaborative Map 2015: a collective response to the layers of human pathways and practices that continue to evolve in The Convent precinct.
